Trainer Series FT Nicolette Ashby

1. How did you get into training?

I started competing in track & field seriously at the age of 12 and continued until my freshmen

year of College. I competed in the 55m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x200m and long jump events. Sports and weight training has always been an important part of my life.  I often turn to the gym and exercise, in general, to help me deal with the day to day stress that we all deal with.

2. How many years have you been working in fitness?

I’m in my rookie year of the fitness industry but have years of experience as an athlete. The last three years of being trained by Dan Petkovsek have taught me so much about myself and approaches to motivation and training.  I am certain that this valuable experience of being a client of an experienced and excellent trainer will carry over to all of my future clients.

3. What is your biggest personal success?

I have had many personal successes both in track & powerlifting, but I would say my biggest success right now was losing over 50 lbs of body fat and never missing a training session with my trainer even if the sky was falling.  I was unsuccessful in the pass when it came to weight loss and sticking with a program. I tried every single bootcamp this city had to offer, weight watchers, the dukan diet, workout videos from beach body,  if it guaranteed weight loss I was on it! So, when I joined Torque I made a commitment to myself to never give up, I was going to do whatever it takes even if it took 20 years. I’m lucky the community & trainers made it easy for me by being so welcoming and genuinely cared about seeing me succeed. I am very proud of myself and the direction my life is going in. I’m on a journey that involves constantly training and learning so I can help others accomplish their goals like Torque has helped me.

4. What is your favourite thing about training?

Growth, progress and power! I love the feeling of accomplishment that comes from achieving an SBD (Squat, Bench, Deadlift) PR or doing 30-40 minutes of hard cardio. I understand that some days it is HARD to get out of bed, but I love when that alarm goes off at 4:00am because it’s showtime! Every workout gets me stronger mentally the physical is just an added bonus.  No better feeling than leaving the gym feeling pumped and ready to attack anything that comes your way

5. How many days per week do you train, what is your training split?

I train Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays with my trainer & coach Dan.  Tuesdays squats /lower body, Friday bench / upper body ,  Saturdays Deadlifts & lower body.  Then I come in 3 additional days for chest, abs, cardio and Sunday is rest day.  Right now I’m on a more intensive cutting program so I come in twice a day for extra cardio.

6. Who is your idol/motivation?

I get my motivation from various sources like youtube, watching sport documentaries on champions. It doesn’t take much to get me going I’m always ready!  Providing for myself and increasing the quality of my life & health motivates and drives me daily.

7. What did you eat for breakfast?

Oatmeal, 3oz chicken breast, 2 egg whites and 1L of water.

8. What are your certification/Specialties?

PTS-Canfit Pro.  My main focus is weight loss, strength, optimal health.
