Hey Torque family, this is Emily – one of the owners, and I’m writing this in the hopes that it will light a spark in even one person and show that you can do it – and we are here to help you.
I have 2 kids under 5. I work my own job. I have a very busy family life. The gym is busy, fast growing, and complicated – So I can speak first hand to “not having enough time”.

Owning a gym, I’ll admit I have access to all the plans and programs/training – but that doesn’t remove the effort and consistency that comes from my part.
I had to lift the weights, eat the food, get my steps in, and get to bed early (no scrolling!).
I’m going to lay it all out for you and share exactly what I did to lose over 70lbs TWICE after both my kids were born.
My Plan
- 1-2 personal training sessions per week
- 3 classes a week (Group Fitness)
- 150g protein daily
- Carbs at breakfast only (on low days)
- 10,000 steps
- 3L water, starting with 1L first thing in the morning.
I tracked all my meals on My Fitness Pal.
I followed workouts on the Torque Training App when I wasn’t doing personal training.
I showed up at 6am on those cold winter mornings after sleepless nights with a sick/teething/regressing children.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to restart. How many times I’ve had “Day 1”.
Dan and I made a schedule alternating mornings and evenings so we could both reach our goals, as well as keep some sanity in ourselves as life got crazy.
Take Away
My experience is as a mom, but this applies to everyone who has fallen in a rut or wants to make a change. YOU CAN DO IT.
JUST START. Start slow – start small.
Set your alarm to wake up 30 minutes earlier. Make a promise to yourself to go to bed and not scroll into the night. Go out first thing in the morning and get your steps (if your family schedule allows).
I’m busier than ever – but I’m trying to fit myself in even if I miss days.
I don’t want my kids to see a depleted, self sacrificing and resentful mother (some days I can be her), I want them to see what I see everyday at Torque.
Strong, committed women who never gave up on themselves and pick each other up when we need it.
Cliche to say but it’s true – fall down 7 stand up 8.
Just start- One meal, one workout at a time.
I’m not where I want to be yet, but no where close to where I was.
Be kind to yourself. Commit to yourself.
You’ll be proud of yourself every time you walk out the door after a class or a workout, 1% better than when you arrived.
We have the plans, the classes, the programs, and the people to help you.
I believe in you ❤️
Emily
